Cookie's Story

That's the way the cookie crumbles.

Cookie first arrived at PAWS Atlanta in February of 2021 when she was surrendered by her previous owner. After only a few weeks at the shelter, she was adopted! However, she was almost immediately returned. Our team was confused and disappointed. Cookie seemed to be the model dog, and we couldn't understand why she kept coming back to us. We knew her people had to be out there!

A few months later, Cookie found a new home! She settled in and months went by, so we assumed she was in a home for life. However, after two years, she was returned again back to PAWS Atlanta. We were devastated. Cookie had joined us for Wags N' Walks and Puppy Therapy and was always so well-behaved. She deserved a wonderful home and we were determined to find one for her.

One of our volunteers took a special interest in Cookie and often took her out for afternoon adventures and weekend breaks from the shelter. She learned so much about Cookie during these sessions, like how good she is with kids and that she knows the command "spin"! Everything we learned about Cookie added to our ever-growing love for her. At the same time, though, it made us increasingly frustrated that she was still in the shelter. We continued to bring her to adoption events and off-site gatherings so she could meet more people, hopefully HER people.

Another year went by of Cookie sitting in the shelter, waiting for a family. Despite our best efforts and Cookie's perfect personality, she continued to be overlooked. In July of this year, though, Cookie got a break. A sweet couple came to meet her, and they immediately saw how wonderful she was. They decided that she was exactly what they needed in their life - a fun-loving, energetic, affectionate pup. Cookie had found her people!

We recently received a few updates from her parents, detailing her adventure through the car wash (she wasn't so sure about it), her very first Chewy box, and many action shots of her excitement. They said, "There has been a lot of good progress made here with Cookie. She has settled in nicely and fits well with our day-to-day routine. She is the sweetest, smartest dog I have ever been around." We completely agree, and we're so glad that Cookie finally found a home with people who appreciate her for the very good dog she is.
