TISSUE WARNING: OKAY, GRAB THE WHOLE BOX, FRIENDS.
1,605 days.
That is how long Butter waited for a home.
He came to us in February of 2016 from our rescue partners at Fulton County Animal Services. Then, Butter stayed and stayed, quietly watching hundreds of other dogs get picked. He was cool and self-confident, not the type to fawn or beg for attention. Butter charmed us all, a master of fetch and a smooth operator with the best sit-stay you have ever seen.
Butter won us over, the staff, the volunteers who walked him, everyone. The hustle of the shelter seemed to stress him, so we moved him to a quieter area. We worried about him as the months passed and his smile seemed to grow tight. How could a boy this beautiful and this good-to-the bone go unnoticed for this long?
Turns out, he did get noticed. Butter's new mom saw him online and fell in love with his quirky smile. When she first came out to meet him, she was nervous. Would this work? But, we think he KNEW. He lit up immediately and began to flirt with her. It was as if he recognized SHE was the one he'd been waiting for.
When she came back again to get to know him a little better, she baked treats for the shelter staff and the dogs.
It's been a long road, but here we are, friends. After several weeks of fostering Butter, she took him home for good. It's official. After 4 and a half years, Butter is home. Who needs another tissue?
