What is Summer Lovin'?
Summer Lovin’ is a hands-on, short-term volunteer foster program that matches shelter dogs with dog lovers willing to host them for 2 to 4 days of fun and TLC.
What my commitment?
If weekends are best for you, we can do that. If you’d like a little more time, or want to take a dog out during the weekday, we’re happy to accommodate that, too.
How does Summer Lovin' Work?
It’s easy! First, fill out a Summer Lovin’ Application and email it to summerlovin@pawsatlanta.org. We’ll set up a required brief home visit to get your started. Then, sign up for your Summer Lovin’ adventures. We’ll ask you about your preferences and activity level and match you with a dog who will be a good fit for you. We’ll set up a time for you to pick up and drop off your shelter dog, and we’ll provide all the supplies you need, including a crate and the dog’s food. If you have a pet in your home, we’ll match you up with a dog who will be a good fit for your pet, too.
What should I expect?
Expect to have one of the most rewarding volunteer experiences of your life. Expect to fall in love with each dog you host, and to become invested in his or her story. Expect to feel a little sadness each time you drop your dog off and a sense of excitement each time you pick a new dog up. Expect lots of attention when the two of you are out together. Expect to be a life-changer, and a hero, because that is how your Summer Lovin’ dog will see you.
Most of all, expect to have fun.
