PAWS Atlanta currently has an opportunity for a part-time Animal Care Technician in Dog Intake.
Working in our Dog Intake facility is a demanding yet highly rewarding job. The Animal Care Technician helps dogs new to our shelter get acclimated. These dogs are often confused and/or overwhelmed when they first arrive, and our Animal Care Technicians provide comfort and care for them during the intake period. It is so moving to watch the dogs become adjusted to the shelter and then ultimately get adopted. The Animal Care Technician is a key part of this process. This position is part-time, two to three days from 7:30am to 4:00pm.

Veterinary Technician

Veterinary Technician

PAWS Atlanta is looking for a veterinary technician with extensive experience in a high volume surgical environment. The right candidate will be a self-starter who is able to work with limited supervision and communicate effectively with different members of the medical and management teams about the organization’s surgical needs and procedures. We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented vet tech who is comfortable giving direction and taking on challenges in our exciting, fast-paced facility.

Duties & Responsibilities
Medical:

• Administer medications and medical treatments as prescribed by veterinarian or veterinary protocols
• Keep management updated on all animals health status and wellbeing
• Monitoring health and wellbeing of all shelter animals
• Check-in public animals for scheduled surgery and dental exams/cleaning
• Perform dental cleanings on shelter and public animals
• Sterilize surgical instruments and make surgery packs
• Calculate drug doses, pre-medicate, induce, and intubate. Prepare animal for surgery, monitor anesthesia and vital signs. Monitor animals in post op
• Assist with outpatient clinic and surgery as assigned
• See pet owners that do not require doctor
• Assist with time management in surgery
• Manage blood work
• Supervise animal diets (measuring and special needs)
• Proficient in placing intravenous catheters
• Fill prescriptions for doctor
• Must be able and ready to handle animal and medical emergencies
• Request vet assistance/orders by phone as needed when no vet is present
• Assists restraining animals for euthanasia
• Perform euthanasia as needed

Animal Intake:
• Perform temperament testing on all dogs seeking shelter
• Works closely with various county animal control agencies to carefully select animals for sheltering at PAWS Atlanta
• Provide isolation and quarantine as needed
• Administer vaccinations, blood and fecal testing and proper record keeping. Keep animals on schedule for boostering, retesting and surgery


Administrative:
• Maintain inventory of all medications and vaccines
• Check voicemail and email daily
• Triage phone calls/emails providing appropriate medical advice
• Keep excellent records and ensure that all appropriate information is charted properly and timely
• Using existing list of approved veterinarians schedule vets for all surgery days and vaccine clinic days
• Enter required information into the computer
• Educate pet owners on proper animal health care
• Orders all medical and pharmaceutical supplies
• Stay within given medical expense budget

General:
• Provide excellent customer service
• Opening or closing shelter depending on shift
• Follow all shelter guidelines
• Perform any other duties, as assigned
• Supervise kennel staff
• Oversee deep-cleaning of kennel areas

Qualifications & Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years of vet tech experience, preferably working in a similar environment
• Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 75lbs, with reasonable accommodations
• Must be able to restrain and handle large animals
